Kitchen Design Trends |
Over my 20 year career, I have seen a lot of kitchen design trends come and go. Some are fleeting and some are lasting. Recently, I’ve seen some great design trends I think will be around for a while. Don’t be afraid to embrace any of these when updating your home!
Brass is Back
You may recall a time, in the 1980’s, when polished brass was all the rage. Then the trend turned towards brushed nickel and oil-rubbed bronze. Now brass is back. It’s back in a big way. It’s not the same shiny brass from 25 years ago. There are beautiful brushed and antique brass finishes or, in this case, a champagne finish. I’m seeing it on faucets, light fixtures, cabinet hardware. It blends really well with other metals and looks great on its own.
In the hustle and bustle of 21st Century life, we hardly have any down time. A lot of people are equipping their kitchens with smart appliances. From a refrigerator that keeps up with your grocery list or how many times the door is opened to the latest cookware that you can connect right to your Bluetooth.
A few years ago, the exposed “Edison” Style light fixture became popular. Now there is a modern twist on that look with the addition of a cage encasement. It lends itself well to the popular Bohemian and Mid-Century Modern trends in design. It also goes well in modern and transitional spaces.
Pops of Color
The trend for kitchens is still quite monochromatic. Homeowners are bringing in color with their rugs and accessories. A colorful runner in front of your sink helps unify the space and give it a beautiful pop of color.
I also recommend finding a colorful canister set or collection of vintage dish towels. The colors can be changed seasonally or whenever you tire of them.
Nod to Mid Mod
Mid-Century Modern design is extremely popular right now. I’m seeing people incorporate it all over their homes, including the kitchen.
Mid Mod pieces are easily blended with most other design styles and give your home a classic look that will last for years to come.
I hope you love all of these trends as much as I do. If you want to “Shop the Look”, click on any of the links below each photo. As always, if you have any design questions, feel free to post them here. I’ll answer them as best I can. Thank you for reading and happy decorating!
